There seems to be an DIY open source #BCI (brain computer interface) scene.
Oh and the read/write speed is apparently doubling every 15 months (Moore's law?).
We should be at approximately 128 bits/min now
@a_breakin_glass They didn't say. Just that today you can control a driving car directly via brain-interface.
They predicted that in 25 years we will be able to communicate (like texting or with text-to-speech) just by thinking it.
I don't know where this leaves us in terms of I/O speed today 👾
Reading from and writing to the human brain directly, like with a hard disk. In 2012 the reading speed was about 8 bits/minute.
Idea for a new hobby:
Collecting network packet capture (pcap) traces from interesting/"fun" network environments. :3
In the same way other people collect stamps or whatever.
"Look at this weird setup with multiple DHCP servers!"
"I've got one where the timings are totally off!"
... you could also trade them if you're comfortable. :D
If you've never made a packet capture trace before, here's how you can get started using Wireshark: https://www.howtogeek.com/104278/how-to-use-wireshark-to-capture-filter-and-inspect-packets/

Never got payed for coding, though.
Currently, I work in a #copyshop. A #CopyJob, if you will.
I think I got the job in parts because I mentioned enjoying #bookbinding, like, as a hobby. For some reason, nobody there believed that. 🤷
So now I spend a considerably amount of worktime ... BINDING THINGS! 💜
(Mostly coil/wire binding, but they have this #gluebinding machine... 😍 )
Anyway, so that's most of me, I guess.
Hi.
(Briefly thought about following some of my friends into studying #art professionally, but decided I lacked both consistent #style and #bullshitting ability necessary for that.
So instead I got into #programming, mostly in #python. I love coding weird stuff, like #procgen #zines or #bots that tell people how #queer a thing is and my hard disk is littered with projects that went nowhere.
(Like I still have a couple gigs of GG tweets I wanted to analyze using #SocialNetworkAnalysis.)
I don't know if I ever did an #introduction post on here, so here's one:
Hi, I'm Minx and I'm a #queer #bisexual #dad. I have #depression and #anxiety-issues, which tends to make me less-than-social and low #spoons. (But I started working on those, so yay!)
People describe me as #reallychill but I'm actually #screaminginside. 😆
I love #notebooks, #fountainpens, #dippens and pretty much anything to do with #paper. (#BOOKS!!! )
There are still traces of #art schooling in me, I guess.
suicide, shaming people for selfcare
People are blaming other people on here right now for taking care of themselves? For protecting themselves?
I get there are a lot of deep feelings involved, especially for those of you who knew the person that died.
You still can't force your words or feelings on people who can't or don't want to deal with it.
Blocking / muting / asking for CWs is not a bad thing. Please don't shame people for that. Just try to remember to CW even if you forget sometimes.

i feel like i cant and wont use masto today, because theres so much neglect for cws regarding a super heavy topic, that its not comfortable for me. im not the only one. we use this platform because these tools are available. i know for me, having the option to only open these posts if i can handle it is something that would make me able to use masto right now...
Cute dog says hi.
Also a reminder that it's fine to (maybe temporarily) mute people even if you care about them. Taking care of yourself is a good thing 🍪 🍵

Her name is Natalie Nguyen. She was, and is loved. She existed. She mattered. She is gone, and missed, but not forgotten.
