How do I even start going about trying to come out as trans? Are there resources for this? How do I even go about describing this? Assume my parents don't have the slighest idea what being trans is, they don't want a daughter all of the sudden, and I more than anything just want to be honest about my mental space with them. I'm drafting a letter to read to them right now, I guess.

Gender assigned at birth is deeper than just how parents raise them. It’s what media tells them they’re supposed to act like. It’s how teachers and caregivers influence and treat them. It’s how these influences make the child think they’re supposed to act like. You cannot escape gender in current day society unless you actively push back against it.

Solidarity in your queer siblings is the most important thing. Sometimes your cis friends can feel like the best thing you’ve ever had. But when it comes to them treating other queer people like shit, to do nothing, and enable them, is enabling queerphobia. Queerphobes can like you if you’re a respectable queer. If you’re not weird enough to cross the line. But when you betray your siblings for the comfort of cisheteronormativity, you’re putting yourself in danger, because the minute you cross that respectability line, you’re done for. It’s toxic. Those people are toxic. They’re not not toxic just because you like them and because they’re nice to you.
