Mal-Wart: "Voted America's #1 Low Price Leader" "based on 2017 brand image study of United States residents"

so, not like
actual price data or anything

So rabb.it (the thing I have been using to share a screen and text chat with a room of ppl so we can watch things together) is shutting down at some point soon.

What do y'all use for this purpose? I like watching things with ppl who aren't physically nearby, and having a text chat means commentary (or other chatter) isn't disruptive. Is there an alternative to rabb.it yet?

ok could someone give me good reasons why it would be a _bad_ idea to have a sort of Habitrail-like modular snake tank, built from smaller units connected with tubes for the snake to go through

www.planetary.org/explore/projects/lightsail-solar-sailing/lightsail-mission-control.html - I helped put a little spacecraft into orbit and you can follow it here, if you like.

honestly just got a lot more serious about switching to krita over this

do *not* need that mentality anywhere in our life, including software we use

[reading that GNU IMP issue thread full of vitriol about changing the name]
you know, Krita is really nice this time of year

re: portland pol / alt-right / racist history

y'know, when Oregon was known as the KKK capital of the north no one passed a no mask law. in the 80s when white supremacist street gangs regularly attacked people on portland streets no one pushed for a no mask law

nineteenth-century oratory, slavery, us politics

The Root published the complete text of Frederick Douglass's 1852 July 4th oration - commonly entitled "What to the Slave Is the Fourth of July?" - on its website today for anyone who wants to give it a read: theroot.com/what-to-the-slave-

July 4, Hawaii, Independence

Imagine a Native American community who had a Disneyland-like resort built over their villages and ancestor's graves, the people made to do bastardizations of their sacred dances, wear mock 'sexy feather headresses' and entertain the rich tourists for starvation wages, 12 hours a day 7 days a week, living sardine-packed 20-to-a-house. And then be arrested for speaking their own language. It'd be an outrage, right? But that is just everyday life, in US-colonized Hawaii

The most important 4th of July toot

Where the fuck are my reparations?

4 July

(and yeah, the real independence day was the second of July)

4 July

hey how we all gonna celebrate the anniversary of two days after a bunch of colonial landowners formally declared that they were gonna go on plundering America without giving their king a cut of the proceeds

hm, kinda wonder if other related compounds would also work. like, naphthoquinones (make one out of menadione, haha--the Vitamin K3 electrode!)

wanna try to make some p-benzoquinone, and some chloranil (that's tetrachloro-p-benzoquinone, and it's the end result of vigorous active chlorine oxidation of a lot of aromatic precursors)

you can make pH electrodes that exploit the redox couple between quinones and their corresponding hydroquinone, q.v. "quinhydrone electrode". the parent quinhydrone electrode starts degrading in high pHs because hydroquinone is soluble in alkali, but the chloranil counterpart should be better

spectroscopy, open science

I think that a dedicated scanner probably gives "better" results. And the question is whether the results you are looking for justify it.

has anyone ever tried ring-opening olefin metathesis polymerization with terpenes? there's some work on making useful polymers from limonenes etc. that I've seen but going through the radical polymerization route with, like, aluminum alkyls and stuff like that
