the issue is that this isn't how it works
nobody wants to be in the eye of a dogpile tornado where every single user of an instance is upset and yelling
sure, it'd cause Some Noise and Disrupt Those Jerk Admins but like
it's just going to hurt gargron and mastodon in the long run, correct action or not

@ummjackson@mastodon.social @Gargron @jec yeah no i'm not denying that Holy fuck that's terrible and the admin doing that is signs of them probably allowing things that'll go too far, i'm saying the issue is they'll end up nuking a ton of civilians if they just full-out blocks the instance

i seriously don't think you're taking "sysadmin politics minefield" as greatly as you should because sysadmin politics can legitimately kill the soul of the person involved because Nothing is The Right Choice and everyone's upset

a small instance where if 5 or more users all block someone at once it banishes them from the instance

@ummjackson@mastodon.social i'm guessing @Gargron possibly either doesn't know about the drama surrounding it or just really doesn't know what the correct course of action for what happened is yet

also honestly it works fine if you're in a small instance because it's just...a small instance, so it's much more "does anyone want cocoa while you're here" and less "sysadmin politics" if you find a good one

mastodon.tld instances have been...notably bad about letting things slide, if not because of just the admin being too lax, because of the admin not being able to handle the load and therefore not trying
