mastodon support plugins for gnu social when though

if it were easy enough to implement changes and addons to the front end, mastodon could just be supported by seeing what addons get used near-globally and adding them to the default

so: how do mentions get sent to another instance
like, i know
1. it runs a webfinger on the user mentioned
2. it takes the data and ???
3. ???
4. federation

Just tried reading a blog post linked on Hacker News, but the blog on the domain had since been replaced with a Mastodon instance apparently, so I just got greeted by the Mastodon 404 page.

Made for a few seconds of confusion until I figured it out.

@wxcafe@social.wxcafe.net i didn't notice >_>

@bug the curse of the mummy was just someone realizing this was fucked up and trying to tell a story thatd stop people from doing this shit

@1@octodon.social is anyone truly good at it

@soft_chomps if a remote user followed by a local user replies to another remote user's post it gets federated

@wxcafe@social.wxcafe.net yeah, it does, and im not advocating it be removed
i just think it's also not clear
