A word of warning to anyone upgrading to Mastodon 1.3(.1)!!!

Starting with 1.3(.1) Private posts will federate! But they don't do so securely! Warnings are built in but be aware that if you have followers on GNU Social, Friendica, or postActiv then they will **NOT** know that your post is marked private/followers-only!! And they **will** be able to boost it!! Once they do so, it becomes a public post

This is not opt-in, it just happens post-update

If this worries you, go audit your followers

@HerraBRE honestly, the issue is is that like there's a lot of unlikable people and they like to hunt in herds

@masklayer anything mastodon.[tld] really, that's where the forbesonas live

@gaditb @loam @squirrel resume has a different amount of syllables depending on if its a noun or a verb

@gaditb @squirrel @loam honestly it seems to respect most of the rules ive seen posted around

@cadance @squirrel nah, it was a whois cache that's gone now (i wanted to see if a whois would come up with a company name or a person name, but .io whois sucks)

@squirrel honestly i don't trust that
1. it feels like drywall press release lgbt
2. there's absolutely no indication that this person is trustworthy (like, it's at the point where im not sure if it's "this person" because it's so bland brand)
3. the domain used to be parked by a parking company before it was that instance (take my word on this with a grain of salt, i have no evidence for it)

honestly someone sliding in like "hey we're the first lgbt instance" with an one word io domain name gives me the oddest dread

@squirrel @loam honestly one might just need to pull in an entire nlp thing

@squirrel @loam ->s{s.scan(/[aiouy]+e*|e(?!d$|ly).|[td]ed|le$/).size} returns the amount of syllables in a word in ruby
