if you paste in over 500 characters, itll say 499 but the toot button'll be disabled
if you bypass that, you'll get a 200 OK and no Bad Request but it wont be posted
copy and paste this into your compose box and check the character count!
interestingly, if you place a ZWJ after every character, mastodon thinks your post is 1 character long
test. according to mastodon's js char count this is one character long???
