cats are fairly social creatures, even your common house cat, they just tend to show it in ways that are a lot different than what you might be used to, especially if you're used to dogs, they consider being in the same room as you as hanging out, but giving you space, they don't always want to snuggle, and some cats might not snuggle at all, but still enjoy your company. Then there's cats that try sitting or laying on whatever you're doing at the moment, this isn't necessarily them trying to steal your attention (though, it can be at times depending on the cat), but rather, they are interested in what you're doing, and they want to do it too. This is why mew may have s33n people talking about making a fake laptop for a cat that sits on theirs while they're on it, they just want to be included too
There are also of course the snugglers, there are lots of snuggly cat, but not every cat is just like not every person likes snuggling, so you shouldn't feel like you're doing something wrong just beclaws they won't snuggle you, especially if they're recently adopted, they need time first(unless you're mean to your cat, then you should die :33 )
