This rings so very true to me, and it's strikingly useful in my ongoing attempts to explain how boundaries aren't rules. It's actually about emotional independence, healthy separation so we can know and love both ourselved and others.

"I thought mermaids had magical singing voices," I said, puzzled.

"I thought humans could leap the length of an orca," the mermaid responded, just as perplexed.

"That's not even physically possible!"

"We were foolish to believe the fairytales we loved..."

"Yeah..."

A long awkward silence followed.

"I can wiggle my ears," I blurted.

"I have venomous barbs," she blurted, simultaneously.

Many of us nonbinary people aren't in a position to pick and choose who we live with.

Sometimes the people we depend on (or who depend on us) deny and insult our nonbinary nature. This will wear on your self esteem and happiness.

Your existence may be intertwined with people who hurt you, but their influence need not be any stronger on you than your influence is on them.

You are the exception to their world view, and that power should not be taken lightly.

Do not use the Huffington Post. They're being run by Oath now, as a way to harvest data to build ad and tracking technology on behalf of Verizon. Same goes double for Yahoo, but who uses that anyway?

It's significant that HuffPo, a freaking news website, insists on access to data on your device, even if you're accessing from the desktop. It's extremely invasive. Fortunately the UK version of the site is required to explain what they're doing, the US & Canada ones don't.

Um... okay, I the to bother here, especially after basically being silent for the better part of a year, but I was wondering if anybody had any recommendations for good books/comics/games/what have you with transgender or nonbinary protagonists, or that otherwise focused on gender issues? Too be honest I've been trying to find some but its been disappointingly difficult to do so.

Do you know what these flowers are called? I have seen a few growing on canal banks here in the East Midlands of England.

There is a bird in the forest, small and drab. She has no voice to sing with, so watches in silence.
Those in pain seek her out. They lend her their voice, to let her sing all their sorrow, their rage, their fire and fear. Until it is gone, and she is silent once more.
