The smelt is an estuary fish which swims upstream to spawn. 250-500 years ago it was common around Britain, and was thought to smell like violets or green leaves! It is now much rarer due to over-fishing and poor water quality. Map from my #AtlasOfEarlyModernWildlife #AnimalHistory #GIS #UKwildlife
@ClaireFromClare So I'm still learning but you follow @bsky.brid.gy, and then they bridge your account so your posts appear on Bluesky (tho you will start with no audience there). Then any likes or comments on your posts from there will show up here. But atm you won't be able to follow back or see original posts of people whose accounts aren't bridged. Tell me if you do it and I will follow you from Bluesky! π¦β Better explanation here! - https://fed.brid.gy/docs#fediverse-get-started
@LeafyHistory It took a month or so for a response from Bridgy & then longer for me to make any new posts - but there are some there now, so if you can find me on Bluesky I'd be interested to hear! Thanks for the info...
