Hm. maybe I'll actually use the RaspberryPi as a little WoL thing.

The new server needs to be accessed while people are out... so maybe have the Pi monitoring people's locations? When they leave the house, it sends a WoL packet to the server so it isn't idling when people are at home.

I'll leave the shutting down manual though, in case I actually need access while I'm at home.

Ooh! Or maybe just monitor the home WiFi to see who's (or rather who's not) connected. Don't need their exact location.

...or even use the Pi's GPIO pins to short out the power pins on the server's motherboard, instead of using WoL.
