Since Christmas is supposed to be the birthday of Jesus, and the Gregorian calendar counts years in an AD/BC system starting from the birth of Jesus...why doesn't New Years Day coincide with Christmas?
I mean, thank goodness, but why? The Gregorian calendar is even named after a pope. It's not like he was thinking, "If I made the secular year start on Christmas, it would make all those people I consider below me/outright evil feel left out."
