mastodon
consider: a mastodon option that makes it so that your posts are inaccessable from the default public interface (you just 404)
people have to have an account to see your posts exist
mastodon
@boots this would make me feel so much safer, the only reason i want to lock my account is so randos can't see me

@Gargron @TheKinrar
Is this possible?
@ChristianD @Gargron @boots technically I'd say it is, but:
- not really useful, right?
- other instances may publish toots and non-mastodon instances _will_
- a new privacy setting? new users are having difficulties understanding how that works, maybe we should not make this more complex :)
@TheKinrar @ChristianD @Gargron it's good for making sure your toots aren't hotlinked and spread everywhere
it could go under the settings page like Lock account
since when has mastodon cared about not-mastodon 🙃
@boots @ChristianD @Gargron (reminder: I'm not in the Mastodon team and so _I_ care about not-Mastodon :p)
Just use the followers-only mode then.
It seems there are no easy answers when it comes to GNU Social and privacy :/
mastodon
I still think this is marvelous idea. It's a nice middle-ground bewteeen "public" and "followers-only".
mastodon
so like
https://computerfairi.es/@boots would 404
https://computerfairi.es/@boots/1016978 would 404
but you could still follow me and stuff
