Tor is under fire because they used a stock photo that turned out to have been AI-generated in the cover of the forthcoming Christopher Paolini novel.

But my understanding is that it's quite common to use stock art, and I don't understand how they could have known it was AI-generated.

Does anyone know how you'd tell art is made by DALL-E or Midjourney, for example, just by looking?
