@steven@todon.nl @kittybecca@masto.jews.international It's considered "prestigeous" to be able to speak only English. I speak Hindi with a heavy dialect (read: mostly hinglish) and I'm considered "uneducated", I have a university degree so that's false.
Yeah, especially in Gujarat and Punjab, the utter refusal to speak the local language to the younger generations is super common.
