Man this is such a wild story and reminds me of the time my Steam account was stolen by Russian hackers, though I did get it back easily
I bought a copy of Portal 2 physically when it was new, pre-ordered from Amazon because it was $40 instead of $60 on Steam. With the photo of the code inside, I got my account back

"how do you know they were Russian hackers?"
They changed my name to Russian and the profile was all in Russian, and a few months later when I was looking into the family share settings, I saw they had did it with a couple of their Russian friends lmao (I don't really use steam that much except when I'm playing a game, and I wasn't at the time)
