RT @slooploon: okay i think mastodon may have the right kind of ppl to help me:

i wish to read good #SciFi! good as in: GOOD SPACE #PHYSICS. it does not need to be hard science fiction, but believable. focus on #science/#tech is appreciated but not necessary.

however, i have these constraints:

- not written by a white cis man- must pass the bechdel test- no misogyny- low bullshit content- SPACESHIPS

bonus for #queer & #nonwhite characters or author!

please boost! thank!!

@slooploon I'd suggest the #Hyperion quadrilogy, even if it doesn't fit your first criterion - I think #DanSimmons is a cishet male (if I'm using the term correctly). The focus isn't on queer characters, but there's:
- good space physics
- excellent plot
- marvelous character development
- communities based on non-traditional gender roles/assignments
- all kinds of non-traditional human categories (I'm intentionally vague to avoid spoilers)

For me, best sci-fi books ever.

@slooploon Also, relatively equal number of strong male and female characters, and lots of non-white characters. The whole series is called #HyperionCantos. Here's the Goodreads entry for the first book: goodreads.com/book/show/77566.

Enjoy!
