is it just me or has the quality of writing in scientific articles gone way down in the last few decades. like, compare a JACS article from, like, 1970 to one written today. nobody writes for clarity anymore

Might have something to do with oppressive rent (and the ethics that support it) in distribution
Also, Capitalism is the answer to most rhetorical questions about why things suck
@AceNovo yeah I'm guessing that publication space is at such a premium and competition for it so fierce that a combination of having to compress papers to squeeze more into a journal, and having to churn out like twenty papers an hour just to be able to keep your job, means that scientific papers turn into a soup of abbreviations and jargon

I was talking about this with my labmates the other day. I wish people would just say clearly what it is they're trying to say. I feel like some people think that it's not good science until it's difficult to follow. Which seems to me like the opposite of how things should be.
