why we tell people we won't use Windows: we know Linux now and we don't like Windows very much, so using it would be pointless
why we actually won't use Windows: unlike any recent version of Windows, we actually feel safe when we use our Linux machines. we feel like we have our own space where we can let our guard down and not worry about the machine turning on us.
Windows has never offered this user experience to us, and probably never will.

tried it again recently, just got battered back into the Windows camp, as always. too much shit just not working right and I have no patience for the kind of tinkering that Linux people seem to think of as fun

@diodelass well, I'm semi-optimistic that I'll live long enough to see the "personal computer" (at least as we currently have it) no longer a viable concept because the infrastructure supporting its manufacture and use has totally disintegrated. then it won't matter if we use Linux or Windows! ;=3

@Alyx ah, yeah. we admit we enjoy mucking around with configurations more than most do, or maybe it's just that we have a really hard time giving up on anything.
linux does have a severe newbie-friendliness problem. it's arguably not entirely its own fault, since much of the annoying shit is due to vendor lockout and and really bad firmware, but that doesn't make it less of a problem.
