on Twitter being better for science

@kara_dreamer@plural.cafe I dunno. sure, the Twitter *brand* will probably live for a long time, but what will it BE

on Twitter being better for science

@kara_dreamer@plural.cafe you really think Twitter has a future

honestly, I should probably get on Twitter. my chances of getting answers to technical questions would be something a bit more than zero, there

@kara_dreamer@plural.cafe yeah well, hope springs eternal

what would be the most valuable use of low-tech for the people. got major choice paralysis between options

home serum monitoring of hormones is a possibility

food analysis? like, getting nutritional values for foodstuffs?

low-tech atmospheric CO2 monitoring?

there's the Unity approach but, ugh, it's Unity

is there something a bit less of a faff

oh yeah time to ask again about what the least painful options are for getting some kinda app running

I figure if I repeat the question enough days, I might get an answer in a month maybe

hey I can't tell if my likes and boosts are sticking or not. seems like a "light theme" thing...

salt about technological development under capitalism

@kara_dreamer@plural.cafe no shit. *laughs* the usual lie is that we start with a prototype thing and then everything after that is better, but nah, not with high-tech shit

high-tech shit starts with a questionable prototype and then just degrades from there. it's the only industry where shit can be counted on to get WORSE with time

yay capitalism!

wow Bing used to be slightly better than Google Images in a couple of minor details but that was a while ago, holy crap does Bing ever suck now

ok Aza Cope it is. that's a name, right?

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aza-Cope

but I think this vein for names is getting near exhausted, unless I really wanna have game characters named, like, "Willgerodt Kindler" or crap like that

@kara_dreamer@plural.cafe eh what's the fun in that

"Aza Cope" that would be cute haha. cheating a bit

@kara_dreamer@plural.cafe yeah that's what I thought

*looks it up* that has a name? well, I guess it would

(Kolbe-Schmitt reaction is carboxylation of a phenol under high carbon dioxide pressure, it's more of an industrial thing)

running out of good names

already used "Diels Alder", "Dess Martin" (well Kara did, in a story she never finished)

"Wolff Kishner" is weird for a girl's name

ok back to

got a character already on Malboro named Corey Kim (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corey%E2) but, bleh, I don't remember how to play a conjurer at all, or anything else for that matter

might as well start from scratch

FFXIV on Linux, suffering, pain

@mdhughes@cybre.space well I wouldn't have even bothered _trying_ to make a go of Ubuntu as a desktop OS if I hadn't found something suggesting that people had successfully gotten FFXIV to run on it. I don't play a lot of games but I'd like to play that one anyway

but in the event...yeah. it just wasn't worth it
