@mavica $15 for like... an art commission is cheap or affordable, but like... for most things? If it’s not a good pair of shoes or like an appliance that’ll last a few decades, $15 USD isn’t all that cheap. $15 where I live is only 7 gallons of gas, it’s 2-3 gallons of milk, it’s 7 pounds of tofu. Like outside of stuff built to last damn near forever or luxury items... it’s not at all cheap. Nowhere near I’d say at least.

@spreach @mavica i've thought this exact thing. it is SO expensive to be poor. it's not a single purchase of $15, it's spending $15 over and over again because the cheap, flimsy version of the thing you need is all you can afford, and it's broken or used up by the next time you have the money.

@Chipper @mavica exactly! Especially in the age of planned obsolescence. It’s why it’s so important to save up money to buy higher quality items that are reparable/durable, but in my experience, by the time you have the money, you need that money for something else and you have no choice but to use it for an unintended purpose, making it even harder to get high quality items, be they necessities or not.
