I've never been a fan of vim, don't like the way they didn't implement the full ex command set, given the first Unix editor I learned was ed, the line commands are important to me, so I use nvi instead which is faithful to the original vi commands but handles 16 bit character sets like vim does but more gracefully and compatible.
