Started learning how to make bash scripts, so I can make one that'll automatically turn on my server (if it isn't already on) when I leave the house.
Shouldn't be too hard, right? 😬
If it's any good, I'll probably stick it on github or something. My first ever script. Woo~

Oh, cool. The new home server provides enough power to USB ports (even while shut down) to power a Raspberry Pi.
...maybe I could mount it internally.
rsync just deleted a lot of important stuff.
Fuck.
I thought --delete-excluded was supposed to delete anything that has been excluded from the destination (said destination being a BACKUP folder).
But it removed the stuff I excluded from the place being backed up.
Stuff in /dev/, /sys/, /proc/... everything in my home folder. WTF.

Ok, so I know how to check what other devices are on the home network (using arp-scan), and I know how to wake devices via WoL from the Raspberry Pi...
Absolutely no idea how to put the two together and send a WoL packet to the server when someone isn't on the home network.
Where do I start? A bash script? Python? I have absolutely zero coding experience (though can learn pretty fast!).
...or even use the Pi's GPIO pins to short out the power pins on the server's motherboard, instead of using WoL.
Decisions, decisions!
Ooh! Or maybe just monitor the home WiFi to see who's (or rather who's not) connected. Don't need their exact location.
Hm. maybe I'll actually use the RaspberryPi as a little WoL thing.
The new server needs to be accessed while people are out... so maybe have the Pi monitoring people's locations? When they leave the house, it sends a WoL packet to the server so it isn't idling when people are at home.
I'll leave the shutting down manual though, in case I actually need access while I'm at home.

Now it's overcast and a even little bit chilly.
I mean, it /can/ be something internet connected, but I'd rather try something else.
So, now the server is up, I have a Raspberry Pi doing nothing...
I'm stumped for ideas what do with it. Needs to be something that doesn't require an internet connection.
PiFM and something looping locally maybe?
Had a mild panic attack when it wouldn't post tho'.
Turns out I just didn't fully seat the RAM.
