i spent ages getting bioshock running under wine... when it runs, it runs great, but whether it actually starts up or not seems to be a coin flip, and if it doesn't start up first time it wipes all the game's settings (resolution, keybinds, etc)
it'd be nice to know what's causing this but the crash report just cites some attempt to write to a memory address out of range? not exactly helpful
i googled around about these memory errors and found a thread on the wine forums about being unable to boot the game unless it was run thru the .lnk file included in the installation, so i figured i'd try it out just to see? and it has booted 5 times in a row without problems now??
i just, don't understand why that would work? isn't a .lnk just a shortcut to the exe??? windows is clearly beyond my comprehension
