@ink_slinger good luck!
Was talking about Mastodon with an old-school sysadmin guy. We reached the realization that defederating from instances with no/bad moderation is essentially the same thing as blocking open relays back when you ran your own email server: open relays always end up getting used for spam, you block 'em to protect your users.
Email was and still is the first federated social network, so it already faced a lot of the same problems; we should study its solutions (and its failures).

@adasauce starbucks is pretty great, and the baristas on campus always call me "dear" so it is actually my preference. Just don't have any coffee shops near my place aside from timmies

@dankwraith Toronto Transit has been upgrading their fleet with hybrid (mostly electric) buses for a few years and now is rolling out fully electric buses. It's pretty rad
ive been riding public transit in this city for the better part of a decade now. union station downtown used to be a ghost town. now it is packed 24/7. why? because the city has massively developed its transit infrastructure.
this is a perfect illustration of the fact that when it comes to infrastructure, demand follows supply. if something is useful, people will use it more. a lack of people using public transit isnt an argument for not investing in it - its an argument for investing more
