@amberhearts@meow.social incidentally, if I try to open the image on a web browser, it simply directs me to a 404 page

@amberhearts@meow.social like attached files. I believe the poster intended these to be images like any other but they're not displayed, at least not on my client.

Been seeing a lot of toots with included files which I simply cannot see, which I assume are meant to be images that Tusky can't read

The worst thing about being a programmer) developer in a galaxy far, far away is having to program in jabbascript

Two things that happened this week:
- YouTube started banning the use of ad blockers
- Google was found serving ads with malware

Today I filed a formal complaint against #YouTube with the Irish Data Protection Commissioner for their illegal deployment of #adblock detection technologies.

Under Article 5(3) of 2002/58/EC YouTube are legally obligated to obtain consent before storing or accessing information already stored on an end user's terminal equipment unless it is strictly necessary for the provisions of the requested service.

In 2016 the EU Commission confirmed in writing that adblock detection requires consent.

Hey folks, I've seen a lot of talk going around about adblockers lately. I worked in the advertising technology and security industry for five years and the one core piece of advice I have is:

Holy fuck never give an advertiser your data. You cannot believe how bad it is. Don't. I run three layers of ad block protection and I'd run more if it was feasible. If you want to support creators give them money.

YouTube could have cut losses a lot more, without enraging everyone and radicalizing folks to team adblocking, if they'd just limited quality to 360p or even 240p without watching ads or having a paid account.

Do you have anything to hide? ๐Ÿ˜กโ€œ

Yes! I do!

- The color of my underwear
- My friendsโ€™ cats photos
- My failed gym class grades
- My first attempt at "portrait"
- The outcome of my last meal
- The weird mole on my left toe
- How much I cried watching Star Trek
- How much cheese there is in my fridge
- My failed knitting experiment
- The horrible poem I just wrote
- My bank card pin number
- My social security number
- My main password
- The web search history for your birthday gift

@njion I'm not an expert or even a student on the subject matter but I understand that the region of the brain that handles pain is pretty close to the region of the brain that handles pleasure, so the wires might get "crossed" sometimes

that uBlock Origin post about how to bypass YouTube's adblocker nags has been making the rounds, but it isn't the clearest in terms of steps, so here's a quick PSA:

1. click the uBO shield icon
2. click the settings button (gears)
3. go to the "Filter lists" tab
4. click "Purge all caches"
5. click "Update now"
6. now refresh the YouTube page.

every time I've seen one of the nag popups, this has instantly fixed the problem.

Having trouble choosing a fluffy hairstyle that suits my sona...

Just a reminder for everyone that is feeling overwhelmed with all the political/climate/economic/war news right now.

You can turn it off.
You can step away.
You can do whatever you need to do to put yourself in a better position to handle things.

#mentalhealth matters. Especially your own.

You can Mute, Filter, and Block. You do NOT need to explain to anyone.

Put yourself First.

It depends on which way inclined they are. No judging.

@njion pick one depending on your preferences :3

(yes, I used deathgenerator for them)
