@Archie8 “doesn’t seem like enough to build a town square on”
what the actual fuck? i don’t want to speak for anyone else obviously but a friendly, supportive, caring group of people is LITERALLY what i would want to build a town square on/with.
so tired of media not just saying what they mean…”seems hard to squeeze for profit.”
blow it out your ass wired
@TheIronFox @Archie8 that was basically my thought. Hanging out and eating sandwiches together, fixing stuff together is what you build a town square out of. The implied need for profit making and a stable business model really reveals what’s wrong with the “town square” metaphor.

The rest of the article is more about how centralization will inevitably become a Tower of Babel situation (as Birdsama has). One that frustrates billionaires who would like to turn everything into a profitable town square where capital E Everyone hangs out.
The screen shot paragraph is from the POV of said billionaires, to show how they’re foolish for trying to squeeze profit out of such a thing.
@TheIronFox @Archie8 I believe it refers to the billionaires’ view of “town square” which was the misnomer for ex-twitter.
@edgeoforever @TheIronFox @Archie8 billionaire town square is where we're all sweating for them and being busily miserable. They're far away in separate castles on islands, flying in v young kids to abuse.
@TheIronFox
After giving the article a read, it seems to be sarcastic; it describes that Mastodon is good earlier on, as it establishes the fact that centralization with billionaires is not the way to go. The goal of the article is to express the messy, fluctuating nature of humans.
@Archie8 sorry friend, this one got me riled up. didn’t mean to be all aggressive in your mentions <3
