Feeling Boo-tee-full. Endearing and wonderful art from Nick Maskell.

Some information coming out of the antitrust lawsuit against Google:

"Google likely alters queries billions of times a day in trillions of different variations. Here’s how it works. Say you search for “children’s clothing.” Google converts it, without your knowledge, to a search for “NIKOLAI-brand kidswear,” making a behind-the-scenes substitution of your actual query with a different query that just happens to generate more money for the company, and will generate results you weren’t searching for at all. It’s not possible for you to opt out of the substitution. If you don’t get the results you want, and you try to refine your query, you are wasting your time. This is a twisted shopping mall you can’t escape.

Why would Google want to do this? First, the generated results to the latter query are more likely to be shopping-oriented, triggering your subsequent behavior much like the candy display at a grocery store’s checkout. Second, that latter query will automatically generate the keyword ads placed on the search engine results page by stores like TJ Maxx, which pay Google every time you click on them. In short, it's a guaranteed way to line Google’s pockets."

Rise of the Triad: Ludicrous Edition is finally out today on Xbox, PlayStation, and Switch! This is a remaster of the cult classic FPS from 1994 made by the Developers of Incredible Power at Apogee Software, and I had the incredible good fortune to be lead developer on Ludicrous Edition.

If this looks a bit familiar, the game has been available on Steam and GOG since the end of July, but the console versions were just released last Friday. 🙂

Hey friends and fellow pirates, hackers, punks, and oddballs! This is a call for assistance!

One of the most elusive films I don't have a physical copy of any longer, and have been looking around for for *ages*, is Terminal City Ricochet, a dark, dystopic black comedy from 1990 that was directed by Zale Dalen, and stars Jello Biafra as the villain, Bruce Coddle, who's keeping people hooked to TV to exploit them and sell them useless junk. I had a copy of this movie on a bootleg VHS, but it got destroyed by water damage. Alternative Tentacles used to sell this on DVD combined with its soundtrack, but it's been long sold out on their website, and believed to be long out of print.

I've checked every site I could possibly check for physical copies. On eBay, I only find the soundtrack. Discogs, same thing.

I know that there's a rip on YouTube, but it's 240p only. Yes, I have it, but it's not really preservation quality.

There's just one torrent I found through 1337x.to, but the torrent constantly halts at just under 60% complete, and only 2 seeders have it but drop interest in seeding at that mark.

This is where getting my hands on the DVD comes in. If I can get the DVD, I can make a 480p rip, which is much more watchable and guaranteed to be cleaner quality, and in doing so, I can share it with friends through all the conventional means (file sharing, sneakernet, media servers), as well as upload it to sites like the Internet Archive, where it damn well deserves to be.

This movie is a prime example of why it's so important to #keepcirculatingthetapes, and why piracy is not a bad thing at all in the end. So if anyone has a DVD copy that they're willing to share, or is willing to help buy me a copy of the movie on DVD so I can preserve it, let me know, or send some money to my Ko-Fi to help me save up to get that (knowingly) pricey aftermarket copy!

@bob @glennf Nice! Inspired me to dig out the official icons we drew for Cartoon Network all the way back in 2004! 🥰

since bandcamp's future is uncertain i'm bringing back blamscamp (by @suricrasia ). it lets you make an in-browser player for your album that you can put on itch.io! it's pretty easy and straightforward to use and works just fine. you can sell music on itch BTW

Setting aside the whole "we hired a cop because they used a bunch of raspis to do cop stuff, hashtag heart eyes" problem, this whole "it's a lot faster, costs more and you need to worry about cooling now" edition raspi definitely feels like they've lost the plot.

The libre.computer and orangepi people are still doing good work in this space, if that's your jam.

not a bad time to point out our old thread about what you can learn from playing Sokoban games and why it's worthwhile (this used to be on Twitter but Cohost is the canonical copy going forward)

Holy shit looks like the WGA pretty much got *everything it wanted*, including structural change.

I just released a song on Bandcamp! It's called Don't Look At The Sun, and it's a joke song that's meant to sound like it could either be about having a lovely summer in the nice hot weather, or about the world ending by way of the Earth crashing into the Sun! Folky and chill with a cool Rhodes piano and acoustic guitar.

There are two versions, both the same except that the first track has screaming between 1:52 to 2:07 (some kids I recorded who were playing at the local pool, but very creepy with the reverb added!) and the second track does not have screaming.

Let me know what you think!

hey there, I played Grey Area on stream with the other devs @BisTheFairy and cassie and we talked a lot about the game's development and story and just generally the thought process behind everything! hope you enjoy! youtube.com/playlist?list=PLzA

If you've like me, you've found the "how much pain are you in on a scale of 0-10" question annoying to answer because everyone's 0-10 varies so much. Well, I wanted to share the new DVPRS pain scale, which defines 0-10 by how much it's impairing your life.

I you wanted some tasty modern recreation fonts of the olden days of Apple, here's a chart with the old name on the left and its modern counterpart on the right (they are searchable and all free)

I got like 40 more so
Cohost has about 20,000 active users
200 notes means approximately 1% of the whole website has interacted with my post
That's crazy

so I woke up to a hundred new notes on the post, which added to the 50-some from yesterday equals way way more than I thought it would ever get
