@TheFourEyed i legitimately like just 'left' or 'leftist' as a term for this. it's far from ideal, but it's simple enough, gets the point across, and changing what it means would require fundamentally redefining how people view politics

Setting: a classroom in the year 2210

"Okay, welcome to week two of 21st Century Media Studies. I hope you all have had time to look over the syllabus and acquire all of the listed course materials.

"Now, as you hopefully already know, the first decade of the 21st century was in large part shaped by the United States' reaction to a terrorist attack on the world trade center buildings in September 2001. But before we can really dive in to how Western film and television was shaped by the resulting conflicts, it's important to understand the cultural context of the existing media landscape.

"I suspect very few of you have heard of this first film that we're going to be looking at. Despite it's relative obscurity now, it was a significant part of the contemporary zeitgeist. I think this film is a really good starting point to understanding the mindset of most Americans in the early months of 2001.

"Fortunately for us, our library does have a copy that is playable on modern equipment. Pay attention now!"

someBODY once told me...

@melt@mastodon.social why is there so much handle who'd even perform that much

mythohistory re: lewdish shitpost

@skelltan@hellsite.site oh yeah, real pagans have been fighting white supremacists who try to pass themselves off as pagan for ages

mythohistory re: lewdish shitpost

@skelltan@hellsite.site i wouldn't know; i'm a mythologian more than a historian, and even then i have little interface with modern stuff. but yes, that's quite probable

mythohistory re: lewdish shitpost

@skelltan@hellsite.site snorri sturluson is the dude who wrote one of the only surviving compilations of norse myth, specifically icelandic

the main issue is that he was born around two Full Decades after iceland became primarily christian, and so he was interpreting a christianised form of the mythology through the lens of he himself being christian. hence why so much of norse myth seems to justify christian mythology in some way

mythohistory re: lewdish shitpost

@skelltan@hellsite.site this is true and perhaps even part of the reason greek myth have been warped as compared to norse which is still largely unaltered from snorri sturluson's *ahem* reinterpretation

mythohistory re: lewdish shitpost

@skelltan@hellsite.site popular media are not very good at remaining faithful to the old tales most of the time. the tl;dr of siren song is that it's basically whatever you most desire

if horny things would lure you to your demise then sure it might be horny. but a lot of the time it'll be things like power, or fame, or playing into how you see yourself—this is a song that's so compelling people jump overboard and try to swim toward it and sirens aren't usually seen as pretty

mythohistory re: lewdish shitpost

@skelltan@hellsite.site not really, no. matter of fact, the only time siren song is ever explicitly discussed (odysseus) there's nothing horny about it at all

lewdish shitpost

@skelltan@hellsite.site sort of a reverse siren, in that it's more likely to drive people away than lure them closer

lewdish shitpost

memorising porn music so i can whistle a ditty in public and make people horny and uncomfortable

re: body horror shitpost

@fructose_dealer @efi motivational poster memes never died

they're like eldritch gods

sleeping. waiting

@popstar@myasstodon.xyz honestly if ur not a treasure trove of some bizarre set of obscure trivia r u even real

@popstar@myasstodon.xyz ....this is. actually useful information for me

lewd ment

i mean the obvious starting point is to try and source all the music they use in porn. that'd be a hell of an undertaking. sounds kinda fun tho

Show thread

tempted to curate a playlist specifically of music that isn't itself bad but that's commonly associated with things that make people feel weird
