free proverb i just made up

which drop of water contains the ocean?

sometimes we get a very abrupt reminder of how finnish we are. usually it's something to do with:
• heat/cold tolerance
• sauna
• metal
• sisu
• 'oh right our name is fkn wolverine danger'
• nudity
• why tf does nobody know finnish
• why tf does anybody know finnish

most of these are the same thing really (see also: sisu)

The tenets of knowledge can be summed up as follows: That one should strive always to advance truth to the full extent of one's capacity. To lie, or otherwise spread untruth is sin; equally sinful is to prevent the spread of truthful information. The practitioner is obligated, should they be aware, to counter any misinformation they find. Perhaps most damning is a refusal to actively encourage the spread of truth. Thus are the tenets of knowledge, and their sins.

@raspberry_boy@cybre.space well since we've clearly established there's a nonzero chance of us being the same person....probably!

why do I have to keep having programming takes, aaah it got long

my take about any given language is that they're all tools. you pick the right tool for the job, and it's good to have a wide variety of tools at your disposal

I was born in a C# cave, so I wouldn't reach for Java without a good reason because it's not what I'm most productive in, but it's there.

also, whatever you pick is going to be fast enough unless you have some particular need for performance, like you're running in tight loops or keeping hardware requirements down or you're a high frequency trader or Google for some reason. if your program is mostly IO bound (like most things these days that mostly do web requests), you don't really care.

also also, learning languages isn't the important thing. it's about learning fundamental concepts, how to express them, and what that particular tool makes easy and what it makes difficult. Remember: the tools you use shape you, and getting stuck in any one mindset is a terrible waste. Broaden those horizons.
