plurality, grammar

look ik ranting abt english not working is an overworked trope but like

the word for [this individual plural system] and the word for [this group of people] is the same word. there aren't even any distinguishing modifiers that apply to it

this is like, we've got a thing that needs to be fixed but we don't even have a hammer

Me: If humans lose the ability to hear high frequency volumes as they get older, can my 4 week old son hear a dog whistle?

Doctor: No, humans can never hear that high of a frequency no matter what age they are.

Me: Trick question... dogs can't whistle.

computer programmer: (n.) anyone who makes a living mostly off of reading technical documentation

someone just expressed doubt that i'd be able to forget [a particularly memorable thing] and im just like. i forget Everything, love. if i can't even remember anything about my own identity do you seriously think i can remember this thing that just happened to me??

look not to start discourse but i don't get why folks on here hate monarchs so much i love butterflies

@hierarchon "Certain viruses (no not bacterial ones), forgetting to maintain against corrosion and degradation, captcha checks, oh and occasionally a door will just *really fuck me up*, y'know?"

The gender of the day is a colony of albatrosses.

re: plural

kinda want to figure out how to put into words this difference. best estimation so far is mel has a lot more "fuck you" energy going on?? but that doesn't really narrow it down much

plural

plural

so....as far as we can tell, i'm basically the one who taught mel wordplay. which is fascinating given how drastically different our approaches to wordplay are. we don't really have uh, words for how to describe the difference, but the difference is very noticeable when you see it

"that's not how you play that"

"no, that's not how YOU play that. it's quite clearly how I do, though."

I think the problem with nonviolence comes down to how the state has coopted and redefined the term "violence"

Private property has no rights. Smashing a storefront or torching a cop car isn't "violent" because it doesn't actually harm anyone

If you define nonviolence as "not causing direct harm to any individuals except in self-defense against a direct attack" then I think a huge number of radicals would agree with that. But when most people say "nonviolent" what they mean is "nonthreatening," and yeah, that's gonna be ineffective, almost tautologically

"If neoliberal America is engaging in a war on the vulnerable, vindicated by a murderous perversion of the frontier code, it is recruiting the rest of us to join in."

Giving myself the title of The Goat of Gomorrah so that I can weed out the religious people who'd call me a devil for that. If a queer person asks me about the title I'll put out a tiny felt goat plush and hand it to them while saying "I dunno I just think goats are super cute"

"Still, to suggest that the violence was unnecessary or entirely unjustified would be to misunderstand the complexity of the story. Even calling the actions "riots" rather than "rebellions" or "uprisings" obscures the principled outrage that animated many acts of resistance that occurred in the aftermath of Gray's death."
