tired: iron is harmful to fae because of unspecified magic intrinsic properties
wired: iron is harmful to fae because of its chemical properties
inspired: iron is harmful to fae specifically because it is physically the stuff of the human Industrial Revolution, a social restructuring event with broadly devastating effects on human adherence to the core values of the fae. for this reason, iron is suffused with a palpable curse that arises from its position as a symbol of human callousness.
Fun fact: Strong Bad's Cool Game For Attractive People was released in Germany by Daedalic, but it's English-only. I think it's the only thing they've EVER released that's not playable in German. They apparently considered the humour impossible to translate, and thought that anyone who's a fan of Homestar Runner would speak English anyway, since the cartoons were never officially translated to German, or any other language.
I'm going to retroactively claim "Only trust your fists / Police will never help you" as an intersection of good game design (letting the players know that there is no game mechanic where reliance on an authority will at all aid them) and good praxis (letting players question reliance on said authority in the first place).
a bug, not a feature.
