hello yes the number of axes by which various types of power are leveraged to perpetuate the disenfranchisement of marginalised peoples is absolutely staggering and the existence of a Single One of those axes is Absolutely Fucking Inexcusable. if these were systems that just happened to be perpetuating oppression it would be immoral to keep them in place. but these were Deliberately Designed to do this. the fact that they exist At All is unforgivable

old meta drama

still love how when a guy decided it was ok to make fun of an autistic person (who is very clearly disturbed and anxious about being made fun of by strangers), the rest of the fediverse decided that was ok

and then proceeded to get mad at the autistic person for having the gall to be like "hey this isnt ok, please dont make fun of me"

re: old meta drama

anyway, if your response to this kinda situation is "just get over it" or "learn to take a joke".etc

please let me know so i can block you wholesale from efdn

you represent a danger to the mental health of me and every single one of my users

and i dont let people like that be around us

anyway im mad about this partly bc it just makes life difficult (i want to read actually good books) but largely because it's a mechanism by which marginalised groups are prevented from being able to voice their experiences and especially share common experiences with one another? and of course the fact that it plays into minorities not being recognised for their incredible contributions to literature throughout history

queer authors who aren't Writing About Being Queer sometimes get on these lists, but they pretty much have to be cis. definitely no enbies

so like....who taf are these recommendation lists even For??? they exclude all the authors of any decent quality

Show thread

i mean for fucks sake ursula k le guin gets left out of a lot of these lists and shes cis, white, and one of the best d__n authors in most of these genera. but you know how many poc authors get fucking Mentioned in fantasy or s.f. recommendation lists? ABSOLUTELY NONE OF THEM. with the sole exception of if somebody is specifically recommending afrofuturism, because that's....literally not written by white people ever

Show thread

like, if nothing else, you could At Least recommend authors based on how well they match the specific genre you're listing instead of just whether they're cis white men

Show thread

hi why tf is every fiction recommendation list Like That

....hold up actually this might have a Lot of truth in. the author's poc and the summary describes it as an "analysis of State-sanctioned violence"

fricken "examines the effects of unfettered capitalism" right there on the back cover how the hells'd i luck into this

got a free book today. not fiction, surprisingly, but there might still be something in it that's true

@MoMartin I'm a big fan of this, as well as expansive definitions of familial relationships in general. Everyone should get to choose the family to which they want to belong.

I have a pretty open-minded attitude to who someone's "ancestors" can be. Mine happen to be both my genetic AND cultural ancestors, but it doesn't have to go down like that. Who ever down the long centuries has contributed materially and spiritually to your well-being and self is an ancestor!

hewwo im just dropping by too say that i fucking LOVE my trans siblings you are all so talented and brave and powerful and you deserve the world ❤️

whats up queers i'm home, making tea, and ready to be do gay TODAY
