The two circumstances where it's easy to get a name change pushed through:

1. When you get adopted by cishet white people who like collecting children of your ethnicity
2. When you marry a cishet man as a cishet woman

All other circumstances: very hard, next to impossible, we never considered this edge case

When I was adopted, they changed my name AND the parents listed on my birth certificate.

Meanwhile, a lot of places still want you to cut your guts open and show them documentation that you did it if you want to alter your birth certificate to list the correct gender.

When transphobes talk about the ultimate sanctity of birth certificates, how they only describe factual information present from birth, I think about that a lot.

How the hell two old-ass Italians who could barely even fuck had a Puerto Rican baby I'll never know.

@avi still wild to me that my stepfather is listed on my birth certificate yet we didn’t meet until i was 6 😕
