I'd support the troops if they actually tried to protest these endless wars, but when you're reprogrammed to not think, you can't expect much.

dismantling the notion of "supporting the troops" in 2020

@Absolutely_Blakely ex troops speaking out against US militarism and standing in solidarity with the people the US war machine pitted them against. You love to see it

focusing human history around war isn't just really boring, but a really pessimistic view of what humans do

y'all: "really well-versed" in Iran/Iraq relations as presented by talking heads who have degrees in how to talk past your cognitive processes and are being paid by folk who have everything to gain from manipulating your understanding.

also y'all: completely unaware that the zapatistas added nearly a third to their territories over the last season

I'm not gonna name names for this call-out, because it could apply to a LOT of you.

"It's good to stay informed about global events" is a very large claim to make without support and yet almost everyone I know believes in it without question.

Paradoxically they also tend to be really unaware of what's happening in their own community, and usually only well-informed about a certain set of topics that famous talking heads go on about, so I find it really hard to talk about what's happening in the world with anyone who consumes the news.

Disney-styled racism, US his

Disney's attempt at an "America-land" just outside DC was some real haunting shit. From big name historians taking sides in a nationally-covered court battle to absolutely slimy Southern governors. But more than anything, it's about how profoundly American Disney is, and vice versa

*CW* racism and Disney-washing, especially slavery, Indigenous genocide, immigration

misgendering

I was a tomboy growing up, except that I had no interest in sports or being rowdy, and cried a lot. But I sure hated wearing dresses and being called a girl!!!!

@melissasage @alexandria @DissidentKitty@radical.town @marsxyz Don't forget the part where the kid nukes two cities to Make A Point

Actually, I kind of hate "gender nonconforming" because it sounds like cop-speak. It's such an outsider's view of a person's personal expression. When I was 19 and wearing baggy dad jeans to class was that gender nonconformity? No, fuck you, I was conforming to my gender of dad.

transphobia

On the HDTGM episode on "Hackers," they spend an extended amount of time expressing sheer cis befuddlement that hackers would wear gender nonconforming clothing, and I think that's beautiful

Slavery

One of my favorite moments in "Harriet" was when the white woman slaveowner was just crying and losing her shit over being the real victim in the situation when a bunch of crackers got mad at her family for letting their slaves run away

Hot atomic take

@melissasage I know, but when people say it out loud it's barely distinguishable to my ears

Hot atomic take

I can barely hear the difference between the "right" way and the "wrong" way to say "nuclear".

@root it's because dwarf fortress doesn't have scripting for dogs.

every single creature in dwarf fortress is implemented using the same system. even wagons. wagons can die of fright.

here's all the code that dwarf fortress has for dogs: github.com/BenLubar/raws/blob/ more than half of that code is setting up fur colors.

everything in dwarf fortress is even weirder than you expect, even when taking this rule into account. I highly recommend jumping into this rabbit hole, because it's fascinating.
