If you think Ren and Stimpy looks better than Steven Universe, you honestly need your eyes fixed.
Reading people complaining about Enchanted Portals is flashing me back to the Steven Universe hatefandom.
"They don't keep on model! If you're gonna go off model for effect, it has to be thoughtful! Look at John K's work!"
Weird how that shit died down after John K got outed as a pedophile
#Medium now fully completed their paywalling efforts. The public page's now completely inaccessible without logging in.
Unsuspecting visitors to Medium's #articles now can't #read them unless they lock themselves into the platform.
The ability to search for new #content written by independent creators? Gone! The goal's to usurp content created by others free of charge to make you pay the centralized platform to access it.
#Plume exists to combat this, using the power of the #fediverse.
You can't make an exacting study of American animation from the 20s to the 40s, replicating character designs, movement, techniques, and backgrounds, then turn around and be like, "Well, we don't really know or deal with the politics of that era, we don't get into the racial aspect of it". You have to be into art history to do something like Cuphead, and to pretend you don't know or care about the era is a cop out.
I really don't like Cuphead, folks.
I know everyone loves the story about the two brothers who mortgaged their house and blahblahblah, but plenty of people have been able to take that art style and that music and put their own spin on it. Cuphead just straight-up took it and lightly whitewashed it with no comment.
Then there's the fact that that the character designs and animation Cuphead took from were often quite overtly racist, and in tweaking them just enough to put in the game, Cuphead whitewashed that.
But that's an essay someone else has already written: https://unwinnable.com/2017/11/10/cuphead-and-the-racist-spectre-of-fleischer-animation/
I mean, if it's all public domain, who gives a shit if another game rips it off?
And if it's that important to give credit to creators of original content, Cuphead's entire aesthetic is ripping off, I mean, paying homage to, original creators.
It's actually kind of hilarious how angry people are at Enchanted Portals for ripping off a rip-off.
"Did they ask the creators of Cuphead first :("
Idk who did Cuphead ask?
Cuphead itself shamelessly rips off other works, is what I'm saying. Really, really shamelessly. To a degree that's less charming than uncomfortable. So if another game wants to rip them off, fine.
Trans, guy of center, well over 18.
I'm in tech and it feels weird.
