"OK boomer," death

How many queer people over 50 do you know? How many people who became anti-imperialist after witnessing what it does to other countries? How many PoC who were scooped up by Project 100,000? How does that add up versus pissy old Fox viewers who won't shut up about pronouns?

"OK boomer," death

If they didn't want to hear "OK boomer" then maybe they shouldn't have let all the ones we'd like die of AIDS or on the streets after sending them to Vietnam on a big lie. Just a thought.

Cyronics is the good kind of consumer fraud because it's exclusively hustling rich people who think they deserve to live forever.

You've heard of Long Island iced tea. Now try Three Mile Island iced tea, a truly once-in-a-lifetime experience.

It's especially funny cuz they'll also say women are in biology/ecology/medicine because they're more emotional or people-oriented, but those fields actually do the opposite of tech; it's all about reducing organisms to a system of parts and quantifying those parts in statistical analysis. Also if you do research on animals there's a big chance your job will be spent killing them. A lot.

Tech bro gender essentialists in Silicon Valley like to defend the gender gap in their industry by claiming men are more "hardwired" for tech work due to lack of human interaction or emotional work, yet almost every problem coming out of that field is related to its negative impacts on people, failure to recognize how their customers interact with their products, etc.

some thoughts about "OK Boomer" from a GenX perspective

honestly, given the reactions that the phrase "OK, Boomer" have been getting in the media, you'd think packs of teens have been systematically targeting elderly people for brutal street muggings or something. but, no... it's just a phrase, and a mild one at that. why is it so upsetting?

because it's not rebellious or confrontational, which are things older people are used to getting from younger people. it's straight-up *dismissive*. and it's not something we, GenX, the first-generation children of the Boomers, ever had the chance to express.

our rebellion was taken away, repackaged, and sold back to us when we were too young to know what it was for or why it could be powerful. we grew up feeling helpless and hopeless, trapped in a world where we had nothing meaningful to say and nothing useful to do because Doom was Nigh--the ozone layer, nuclear war, the Y2K bug, politicians that hated us sending us off to wars for blatant lies. Boomers got to have their Swinging 60s--we grew up under the specter of AIDS. we were isolated from each other, so we never realized that we weren't alone. and when we were finally able to get our own voice out into the popular culture, we spoke obliquely of isolation, depression, inward-turned knives.

It's messed up how the right is so consistently invested in making people believe nazi propaganda. I'm sure it's nothing.

Liberals, on the other hand, support the oppressed in principle but tend to evaluate the aggression of the oppressor and the oppressed with the same scale. That is the root of arguments like "workers shouldn't strike", "musanghi", "all lives matter", "not all men" and others.

For the oppressor, equality tends to feel like oppression. That is the root of the right wing arguments like "Hindus are in danger", "Brahmins are the new Jews", "reservation destroys merit", "men's rights", "white nationalism", "public healthcare is bad" and others.

Most atheists only know about one religion well: the one they disowned. But they tend to make careless assumptions about the rest when they "oppose all religions equally". And since they are quite uninformed about other religions, they easily fall prey to bigoted narratives.

Wow, an actually #encrypted #notetaking app that is fully open-source and doesn't collect your data like #evernote does?

I say bring it in turtlapp.com.

nazi

Ok, so I saw some shit about Milo beefing with Spencer.

What I didn't see was anyone talking about how a CUNY professor got outed as a nazi co-host on Spencer's show.

CUNY is full of immigrants and POC, and this Josh Deitz motherfucker was teaching classes there?

This feels like an example of the fediverse being so white that nobody cared to mention this. I saw plenty of shitposts making fun of how ridiculous the beef was, tho.
