sads-related philosophical thought stuff (part 2/2)
putting your brain in a jar and hooking it up so that it can see and talk means it's still your spirit. let's assume your brain can be put to sleep and then say...your visual processing center can be replaced with a perfect tech replica. this tech replica reacts the exact same way the old part of your brain does. if your brain slowly becomes a cyborg until it's entirely technology, do you ever cease to exist?
sads-related philosophical thought stuff (part 2/2)
@bea honestly what worries me is the fact that we have to assume we have a spirit
how the fuck am i working how do i have one constant view of reality how isn't it broken up aaaaa
sads-related philosophical thought stuff (part 2/2)
@boots i mean, i don't think there is such a thing and i don't think we DO have one constant view of reality.
it's a convincing experience stitched together from memory but i don't consider it constant or even true in any way
have you ever had a completely missing piece of experience?
i still don't want it to cease
reply on philosophical thought stuff
@boots Even working with the base assumption, there's an important missing variable before you can really know for sure, which is "can a spirit inhabit technology?" It's established that the creation of a new, cloned body creates a new spirit - but what about the creation of an full AI android? Does a spirit become created for it? Also: can a spirit be transplanted, like an organ, or transfused, like blood? (1/2)
reply on philosophical thought stuff
@boots (2/2) If you can't transfuse a spirit into another brain, then your spirit would cease to exist when the last piece of your brain is destroyed, since it's established that the brain is what contains the spirit.
If creating androids creates a spirit, like creating a clone, then the original spirit would gradually be replaced by the AI spirit.
If spirits can be transfused or transplanted, then it would "fill" the new tech brain pieces.

@boots so just my imo, you do not cease to exist in this case, just change. the person you were before no longer exists even though you still do. this can happen for all kinds of reasons in normal life anyway, so i don't see it as fundamentally different
this is classic what's it called, ship of theseus?
GitS SAC probably is my fave exploration of these things
