@boots no there's HD Audio now. With the same issue that all cards have GPIOs that every vendor hardcode as they see fit.

@boots ain't it funny? So in OSes now instead of N drivers, you have 1 AC97 modules plus… N drivers.
please note that this is the MODERN STANDARD THAT MOST COMPUTERS ARE SUPPOSED TO SUPPORT
