how much would it take second life to become a sovereign nation

like people tell me this isn't going to work on birdsite but like:
1. it has a working economy
2. it has citizens
3. it has land that can be sold and bought
the fucking list goes on

i like how birdsite was like "wait but how would SL get a military" and mastodon is just like "wait, buying and selling land? ew"

@boots if a former wwii artillery platform in the North Sea can become one, so can a video game

@NetKitteh I mean it's a capitalist nation but it's still like

@boots consider: instead of buying and selling land, just using it or not, like not needing to buy unused land from some fat ass shitbag who is squatting on the ownership.

@NetKitteh honestly SL's economy workings as far as land disgust me and i hate it but like
it totally could become a sovereign nation

@boots I want something that's basically the federated social network model but applied to second life. Instance a world, create accounts on various worlds, federate your avatar to other instances

@astolpho honestly i wonder how close one could bring opensim to this

@boots i remember like ten years ago there was a virtual world project that was basically this but I don't remember what it's called

@boots
1) people with the desire to make it so,
2) move SL servers out of the sovereign jurisdiction of any & every other nation,
3) re-powering & re-connecting said servers to the Internet,
4) develop an economy which can produce RL value/goods to pay for it all.
The location of the servers I see as the major obstacle to sovereignity. Nothing absolutely insurmountable particularly if you like the idea of building a mid-ocean island or living permanently in Antarctica.

@Eljay59 4 is already done, there's lindens which can be produced via work and converted to USD

@boots
Aaah so true. I have actually made are reasonable amount of RL money, speculating and trading in Lindens. But 'work' within SL, while it makes a few Linden, rarely earns enough to make it worthwhile. Using SL and Linden as a marketing tool for one's RL commercial/artistic activities on the other hand can be quite lucrative but still not the same as having a national import/export/manufacturing/primary production base.
Unfortunately. :(
