interestingly, if you place a ZWJ after every character, mastodon thinks your post is 1 character long
copy and paste this into your compose box and check the character count!
@boots FYI your statuses are seriously slowing down scrolling through my home timeline in Amaroq/iOS
@boots I'm guessing excessive ZWJs are either hard to parse or hard to render, and your gifvatar probably forces redraws
@impiaaa it just has to think really hard about if im doing things right with ZWJ (im not)
@boots (and unfortunately the CWs don't help in this case because it renders them anyway, just puts a blur filter on top…)
