Since URL shorteners are pretty handy around here, I discovered http://ur1.ca/ earlier today. Not only does it create URLs that are typically a bit shorter than bitly, it's open source (and open service, since it's SaaS).

@boots I suspect the project may have been abandoned. The actual URL shortener still works, but links to download the source or the database don't work.
