hot take: mastodon shouldnt let anyone but the original poster see who faved a toot

@boots
Okay, I see that.
But conversely how are we supposed to shame self-boosters and build elaborate networks of public opinion from toot-node intersections?
Also the author is dead so why should we privilege their ability to know?!
FULLY ANONYMIZE FAVES!
IT'S THE ONlY WAY TO ENSURE UNBIASED BOOST/FAVE POLLS!

@boots
No one should be notified except for me when I fave things. It's not your business if I want to review your post later. It's a bookmark. If I wanted to tell you I agreed with your opinion, I'd boost it.
There is no reason to play the 'ritual social afformation' game.
I mean unless you want to~

@ira honestly people do use favorites as "i affirm your post but not enough to boost it"

@boots
That's useless~
We don't need to train predictive algorithms here. We don't need to skinnerbox our users with low effort pleasing sounds and warm fuzzies.
I'm behind you on this one sweetie.
We're above this, and so should mastodon...
Then again, dopamine rushes can be pretty good~
