@boots The only way for followers-only posts to stay "semi-private" is if you keep followers locked and only allow followers from mastodon instances.
Mastodon/OStatus is a very bad platform for privacy in general.
Direct messages between mastodon users _should_ stay private modulo bugs, hackers, and evil admins ... but the protocol wasn't really built for this.
