@Nine no you totally got it, Chaos was a spirit, the Chao and Chaos were supposed to be the FINAL DEFENDERS of the Master Emerald if I remember right
Basically if the Chao are happy and chill, Chaos isn't going to cause another extinction event, but Robotnik was literally just trying to kill Earth in SA1 and 2 especially
@NeonArcadia ah ok! I remember the overall story regarding the mysticism bit of Chaos being rather interesting (the most interesting bit tbh) so I'm glad I managed to retain that info at least
@boots weirdly when i first played sonic adventure for the dreamcast, me and my brother used to pronounce chao as the singular of chaos, i.e. "kayo"
honestly moving houses every year and also learning to read before i had conversations basically destroyed my chances of pronouncing anything correctly
