honestly the fact that mastodon has to convert to mp4 to pause gifs is uh😐

@boots P sure it's also done because gif is a horrible format. Iirc Garg actually did webm but that won't work on any Safari browser 😑
@noiob @boots gif -> other formats has problems with variable speed gifs as far as I know. Pretty sure something would go wrong with my avatar if it was stuck through ffmpeg.
