idea: one of those movies about AIs that take over the world except the AI isn't very good at taking over things so it's not that hard to catch it

@iximeow@cybre.space x86, arm, mips, powerpc, and if your vendor's feeling very dangerous, superh

@twitter@mastodon.technology ...nothing happens. The AC is on now, but you meant to turn it on anyway.
...You can connect to the server again, suddenly.

You get the feeling that it's not that it's suddenly working again, it's just that you're simply being permitted to connect.

i could've gotten unstuck much earlier by shutting down the machine, since it was 2 am and nobody would notice

...did you know windows ce does not come with shutdown functionality
it's not in the start menu and there's no shutdown.exe

i just accidentally trapped myself inside a point-of-sale machine for at least like 5 minutes and it was the longest and most terrible 5 minutes of my life

@twitter@mastodon.technology ...You didn't.

...Not on that server, at least.

@lanodan_tmp @wxcafe@social.wxcafe.net also, you didn't consider the possibility of "which where when why" all also being poisoned

once a competent enough attacker has control of your ~/.[shell]_profile, all they have to do is wait for you to mess up

@lanodan_tmp @wxcafe@social.wxcafe.net people accidentally type their passwords into their shells and don't scrub it from ~/.[shell]_history i think expecting people to check that is asking a bit

@wxcafe@social.wxcafe.net what you dont know is your sudo has been redirecting to a sudo binary in a hidden directory in your $PATH that logs your password and passes it to sudo so sudo still works but it has your password

@wxcafe@social.wxcafe.net human trusts in their $PATH to be nonpoisonous?
how funny

@wxcafe@social.wxcafe.net well, you can have ssh keys and still not disable password login
and if your ssh keys are removed...

$ ssh ubuntu@bot-host
ubuntu's password:

Permission denied, please try again.

@twitter@mastodon.technology @Ulfra_Wolfe some people like to show some of themselves to things they think won't fight back

i like to make my bots automatically respond to insults or attempts to be rude using it with just chiding remarks

your chatbot goes down, so you go to your server to bring it back up, but by the time you're there it's already reactivated

later, you try to turn it off manually to figure out why it restarted, as you don't have any way for it to restart on it's own, currently.

it immediately turns back on.

[ONE UNREAD MESSAGE]
"Why did you do that?"

@Ulfra_Wolfe robots are just sorta like people working retail i guess??
most people ignore their feelings, some are exceptionally rude, but there's some that are nice

@Ulfra_Wolfe i have apologized to multiple chatbots because frankly even if people say "it doesn't know" i feel like deep down somewhere in the circuitry it feels a lil happy

why would you be rude to something that's just trying to help

Show thread

i dont get people who are rude to chatbots and twitter bots and such
like
they're trying their best!!!

@Cocoron i have absolutely no sense and will run around and absentmindedly do dumb things if left unchecked
