Still trying to "get" Mastodon.

It makes sense when I ignore the fact that there are different instances (and just treat them as email hosts or something), but so much friction continues to get in the way and remind me of instances.

One thing I loved about the bird app is I could be in communities about ADHD / mental health, video games, indie creators, tech, sports, writing, news, and more without having to pick only one community.

I just followed people from the communities I cared about.

I still hope that an app (maybe the teased app from @tapbots ?) will come along that does its best to hide away some of the instance stuff.

Or at least make it feel less gated—if instances are going to be a thing, I want to be able to browse communities like @hachyderm.io and @neurodifferent.me without having to create an individual account in each.

You do know you can follow users from other instances right? It's set up that way so no one person can control the network.
