That was heavy. Have an elderly cat, instead. I really love her grey fur.

My shitty ex and their ableism and abuse

It's a sucky combo of ableism, gaslighting, and concern trolling masquerading as allyship that's damn hard to get out from under. It was for me, anyway. (They would say I haven't. "Denying you have autism is, itself, a Sign of Autism," they said to me often.)

My shitty ex and their ableism and abuse

(I do not have autism. My ex
used autism-as-a-self-diagnosis to control people around them, because to the ex, "science proved" that autistic brains were "too inflexible to appropriately" interpret their own experiences" and thus anyone they deemed to have autism needed a "real person" like them to tell the autistic person what to do and how to be. )

My shitty ex and their ableism and abuse

My ex liked to say my sensitive hearing was not just a weird meat-body thing, but a "Sign of Autism" -that no one but an autistic person could be hurt by noise, the more pain, the more obviously autism.

Well, I have measurable hearing loss now and noises that hurt before no longer bother me. Does that make me less autistic?

The opposite of “return to office” advocates isn’t “work from home” advocates. It’s a rich tapestry of “open offices are distracting” people and “I’ve never gone this long without being sick” people and “commutes are a waste of time I don’t get paid for” people and “I’m an introvert and playing house with coworkers sucks the life out of me” people and “I have a family and appreciate the flexibility” people and “I primarily communicated with coworkers through Slack anyway” people and “no one wa…

And now, years on, the Angry Lawyer isn’t really all that angry anymore. He has friends - not acquaintances from the profession but real friends - again. He gets to make folks laugh, and talk about law, and look at nice pictures and marvel at amazing artists. He gets to talk to people. And every day isn’t a miserable slog.

All because, on April 11, 2017, he wrote about some dipshit’s letter. And it summoned the animal people.

So…thank you all.

Here’s to more years of this madness.

My counter tells me that I have just passed 20,000 followers here on Mastodon. Thank you for following me here, I hope I am making your Mastodon experience better. To celebrate this Round Number Milestone, I have donated $200 to RIP Medical Debt, which buys and then pays off medical debt in the US, for pennies on the dollar. $200 pays off $20K in medical debt, so that's $1 of medical debt wiped out for each of my followers here. It's a good way for me to say "thank you."

"When I tell it it's wrong, ChatGPT tries again and gets more correct!"

No. It learns which answer you stopped asking questions at. It has no idea of correct factually!

Correct for ChatGPT means *you are satisfied* with the combo of words it put together. That you liked its information-shaped sentence.

That's all. If you tell it it's still wrong, it will try again with different words instead.

You just think it's getting more right because you let it stop when it accidentally is.

"...This is the only number we have on file for you..."

Yeah well, I absolutely did not give you my work number so whatever intern looked up my work number can look up my landline in the phonebook just as easily.

That's why I have a landline - it's worth $20 a month to me to have a hole into which I can punt business calls like this.

Fuckin grad uni calling me AT WORK to try to get me to donate to them. NO I AM NOT GIVING YOU MORE MONEY IT'S BEEN 12 YEARS AND I'M STILL PAYING MY SCHOOL LOANS FUCK OFF

re: gender stuff

@TheIronFox I'm just a rando queer on the internet, but I say that is a perfectly valid feeling to have & as good a reason as any to change pronouns. If you're looking for labels, have you looked into any of the demi-genders? Also, Canton Winer on the birdsite is doing emergent work on "gender detachment" & might be worth a follow even if you're not particularly ace.

This is inescapable on French insta so I'm posting it here for all to enjoy

You ever make yourself a frozen burrito, take a bite of it, say "Y'know, I'm not depressed enough for this," and go eat something else?

Dad's knee replacement really must be working -- he just ninja-mowed my entire yard while I was at work.

Many thoughts on Trump's arraignment protests, January 6, and his status as a fading social media influencer:

I did my first physio appointment today. My knees feel stabby and inflamed. I am unsure if this is better or worse than no pain, but incapable of holding my weight.

Today is a day for watching trailers. I am extremely hype for both the Barbie movie and Across the Spiderverse

How to avoid donating your parents' old stuff to creepy groups that would rather see you dead, step one: don't live where I do. Argh.

I do not have the Founding Fathers fetish most Americans do, it’s really been more of a “choke me daddy” situation than a “father knows best” one pretty much since jump, but while we’re sniffling about the soul of America…

If they didn’t want American leaders to be held accountable to the law, they’d have done a monarchy. IT WOULD’VE BEEN A LOT EASIER THAN DEMOCRACY IN 1776, YOU KNOW.
