The thing I didn't think all the way through, before taking this queer studies class, was how much my crappy Ex had intertwined themselves into what I knew about queerness. They made themselves into the only source of queer affirmation, info, and support I had, and it's still hard. Relatedly, I hate how mopey winter makes me.

It's just been really depressing to be on social media lately. I miss chatting with my friends.

Crap… Crunchyroll killed Right Stuf.

> Right Stuf Phases Out, Migrates All Products to Crunchyroll Store on October 10. animenewsnetwork.com/news/2023

FWIW: Crunchyroll used to be the best, most user-centric #anime site – proudly pointing out a CR subscription meant the creators were getting paid. So people signed up.

Then CR got acquired by Sony. Ever since it's been pure example of @pluralistic 's coinage of #enshittification.

I have a Neuro appointment in a month. I wonder if it'll be any different from any other doctor...

I'm always surprised when people don't know that you can sign up for a streaming service and immediately cancel a minute later. That way, you get billed for one month and then it doesn't autorenew.

I find if I wait until later to cancel, I'll forget. So I just subscribe and cancel at the same time.

Cached US Kindle giveaway: 10 copies of SUNSHINE, by Robin McKinley. This is, by far, my favorite vampire story, and it has some of my favorite world-building, and it is written beautifully and lovingly and occasionally ethereally. And it is about a baker and dealing with what happens when your presumption of safety is ripped in twain leaving its blood and guts all over the floor in front of you.

As usual, feel free to claim a copy, or tell other people about it, or both!

Oh, friends. It was pregnancy goo kink. Textbook. Goo kink.

All that body-horror descriptive power turned towards lavishing details on (transparent!) gummy women giving birth and I'm pretty sure he doesn't know how very pregnancy goo kink it is. It is Not That Sort of Group.

How in the world am I going to crit this without mentioning it? How am I going to maintain the "enthusiastic and encouraging" tone this group requires?

This is my luck with crit groups, I swear.

Gods and stars a-mighty. So this lit-horror crit group that I fit in like a brick in a ballet slipper? Yeah, this week, the artsiest and body-horror-iest of the members was like "I don't usually do horror -" (me: hah!) "- so I tried to lessen the impact of this preg-and-birth story by making it about candy."

And friends,

This is the best explanation I've found of how terrible the Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA) is. It's probably worse than you thought, even in its amended form. Please call your reps now!

I really hate that I don't make enough money to pay for updating the filters in my CR box, and how many scammers are out there on amazon selling counterfeit filters. It's so hard to tell what's legit.

And like, I had a beginning, a middle and an end where a problem was introduced, there were feelings had about it, and it was resolved, so. Like, it's no Big Wangsty Feels About Fucking and Dysphoria That Go Nowhere at word limit, I know. I guess that's my problem.

Adventures as trash in Literary Horror group continue, as the most prolific crit dude tells me my story isn't a real story and things happen too quickly. At a hair over 600 words, I'm not sure how he expected it to go slowly.

My time as a schlock writer in the Literary Horror critique group continues to be awkward. They don't like my stuff, I can barely read their stuff, but the group rules mean we all have to be "enthusiastic and encouraging" at each other. This is my luck.

I am actually super excited for this

Villains By Necessity is still one of my favorite fantasy novels

Literal sword lesbians.

(Sword given to Maréchal Joseph Joffre, former commander-in-chief of the French military, in 1919; representing friendship between Provence and Catalonia. From le musée de l'Armée in Paris.)

I was on my lunch walk and unconsciously ended up next to the cookie shop so I bought my dept cookies because if I'm going to buy one cookie I might as well buy a dozen

"You are disruptive by refusing to be exploited" sure is an argument, yep.
